101 Post Penguin Link Building Tips – STFU!!

Hey kids! Guest post time! Today we have a penguin based rant via Chris Dyson one of the smartest UK SEO’s going and fellow CEO of Link Builder Awareness Day.

I don’t always like to swear when writing my blog posts but sometimes I have to. I was brought up in a northern town so we have a terrible grasp of our native tongue plus swearing (cussing)  makes you look big & clever.

I think there’s a study on some social media blog that shows a high correlation between number of swears & number of shares somewhere…probably?

Anyway as you can tell this is another angry northerner with a gripe. I’m absolutely sick of all these “post-penguin” safe link building tactics/strategy posts.

They offer nothing new, no science, no data just unfounded claims based on 8 years as an SEO that blog comments & social bookmarks are Penguin-friendly.

You’re an expert on a f***ing algorithm update that rolled out less than 6 months ago? GTFOH!!!

If you are contemplating hitting publish on your next post-penguin link building article then please stop and wait for a minute and complete this brief survey.

  1. Do you have a case study?
  2. Do you have some REAL data to share?
  3. Can you swear on your mother’s grave you are not just writing a post because all the big kids are doing it?
If you can answer yes to these 3 points then please feel free to hit publish.
None of us are 100% on Penguin recovery & survival yet.

  1. We know it’s to do with links
  2. We know there are correlations with over use of anchor text
  3. We know blog networks & low quality directories are being deindexed
But right now not one of us are 100% qualified to say what does or does not work all the time, every time.

If you want to learn from some real link building pro’s  then go follow Ross Hudgens, Jon Cooper, Jason Acidre or James Agate on Twitter.

Please feel free to rant in the comments I’m off to get a beer.

  1. Beautiful.

Unfortunately it seems to be whatever will gain traffic. I for one am pleased that people are rewriting each others shit as it means I waste less time reading and more time playing Tetris.

  3. Even more dangerously, have you started receiving the ‘penguin recovery link building’ spam emails?

I replied to a couple to see what they where offering, and it’s the exact same links that were being built before; shit links stuffed into the bottom of shit blogs filled with shit content.

It appears that just saying ‘penguin safe’ is enough to convince some people.

  4. I’ve seen some random posts on post-penguin safety and well, it’s like they are just rehashing what the higher ups are saying. Not to mention that they add “play-safe” shit all over their post with words like “even though it has not been totally approved, I think” then just say more words that will help them look “awesome” yet they offer services tied with the worst looking sites ever.

    1. There is too much crap being published at the moment. I read a post last night recommending links in Social Profiles, Social Bookmarks and Blog Comments as the safest types of links right now?!!

  5. You’re an expert on a f***ing algorithm update that rolled out less than 6 months ago? GTFOH!!! << love this quote like anything

In my opinion if you have a case study related to penguin recovery then you got the real licence to hit publish or else keep digging and experiment…

short and simple message to all SEO bloggers out there!

  6. it’s been 6 months after Penguin; and all I got was this ‘opportunity juice’ shirt http://www.spreadshirt.co.uk/design-your-own-t-shirt-C59/product/104407247/view/1/sb/e#

I heard at the end of the movie, the assumed dead body on the ground is really Panda the whole time, suffering from an inoperable brain tumor, maliciously tricking people into penning post-Penguin posts or be opportunity juiced to deathz.. #mymind=blown

  7. Very good and honest article, I fully agree with you when you say that noone can call himself a “post-penguin expert” as so little time has passed since this update has been released, and even if we know that this update has something (a lot?) to do with quality of your link profile and signs of trust from the web (social presence, brand relevancy, etc), there is still no golden rule for being completely penguin-safe. At the end it all comes down to the old good rules of SEO: give away good, interesting content, don’t build links without a clean objective in mind (quality over quantity), take care of your online presence and your brand reputation, and you’ll be fine.
